Southwest Monsoon has reached parts of Northeast India and has just touched the states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Now, conditions have become favourable to cover the entire Northeast India very soon within about 48 hours or so. With this, Southwest Monsoon is near on time over the Northeast Indian region.
Heavy rains have already started to lash many parts of Northeast India. In fact, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, North Lakhimpur recorded 121 mm of rains, Silchar 66 mm, Imphal 30 mm, Dibrugarh 21 mm, Guwahati 17 mm. Rains have extended to Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim region as well, with Gangtok recording 104 mm rain.
Around the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over Assam Valley, heavy rains may be seen with flooding rains likely in parts of Northeast India including Assam and Meghalaya. Thus, rainy days are ahead for Northeast India in the coming week or so.
