Delhi received very heavy showers from July 8 to 11. Thereafter, Southwest Monsoon in Delhi took a backseat. A fresh spell of Monsoon showers returned to Delhi-NCR on July 16. We could attribute this spell of rain to the Monsoon trough which has been oscillating close to the plains of North India. Back to back Western Disturbances are also affecting the national capital.
In the second week, July 9-15, Delhi received exceptionally good Monsoon showers. Here's a look at the rainfall figures:
Updated on July 14, 2015 11:55 AM (IST): Monsoon rain makes dramatic recovery in Delhi
Delhi has been receiving very good Monsoon showers since the beginning of July. All parts of the National Capital recorded deficit or scanty rain, except Central Delhi, in the last week of June. However, Monsoon in Delhi made a dramatic recovery in the first week of July. In fact, the rainy spell continued till July 11.
All thanks to the active Monsoon trough oscillating near Delhi along with successive Western Disturbances and the depression hovering over East and Central India. Moreover, Delhi-NCR witnesses the wettest July in last five years. Heavy showers were witnessed on July 11, which caused massive waterlogging across Delhi-NCR.

The Safdarjung observatory has already surpassed the monthly average rainfall of 214 mm. However, Southwest Monsoon in Delhi has now taken a backseat. Good Monsoon showers are not expected before July 16-17.
