The offshore trough extending from Coastal Maharashtra to Kerala is strengthening gradually. Consequently, widespread Monsoon showers are expected over many places along the West Coast.
The weather system may give heavy to very heavy showers at some places over Coastal Karnataka and Kerala during next 4 to 5 days.
Southwest Monsoon was going through a weak phase over Kerala for more than 10 days now. We could blame it on the typhoons in the Western Pacific.

Monsoon seems to be gaining strength now. The offshore trough is likely to bring good showers over Kerala. However, looking at the above figures we could say that it’s difficult for the above mentioned places to catch up with their monthly normal rainfall figures.
Most of the places in Kerala recorded the highest 24 hours rainfall this month during the last 3 days. For instance, Alappuzha received the 26.8 mm on July 11. On July 10, Punalur received the highest rainfall so far and recorded 16.6 mm. Kannur and Karipur received maximum rainfall on July 9.
