Progress of Southwest Monsoon 2016: Covers entire country

The Southwest Monsoon has finally progressed into remaining parts of West Rajasthan, Kutch region of Gujarat and North Arabian Sea.

With this, the Monsoon has now covered the entire country.

The scheduled date for the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is July 15 and as expected, it has covered the last post of the country around the normal time.

With the completion of Monsoon journey, the axis of Monsoon trough has also been established.

The Southwest Monsoon continues to move at a rapid pace. It has now further advanced and covered more parts of North Arabian sea, Kutch region, some more parts of West Rajasthan and remaining parts of Gujarat region.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 24°N/ Longitude 60°E, Lat. 24°N/ Longitude 70°E, Jodhpur, Phalodi and Latitude 28°N/ Longitude 71°E.

According to Skymet Weather, the weather conditions remain favourable for Monsoon to cover the entire country in span of next few days. This year, we expect Monsoon to cover last post of the country well before its scheduled date of July 14.

Southwest Monsoon has been taking baby steps in terms of its advancement over the leftover parts of the country. While Monsoon made an onset over Delhi on July 2, more areas of Gujarat as well as East Rajasthan were covered yesterday.

Now, Southwest Monsoon has made further advancement and has covered more parts of Gujarat. Monsoon has also covered the rest of East Rajasthan and a few more areas of West Rajasthan.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Lat. 22.0°N/ Longitude 65.0°E, Dwarka, Surendernagar, Jodhpur, Phalodi and Latitude 28.0°N/ Longitude 71.0°E.

Now, only the Kutch region and some parts of West Rajasthan are yet to receive Monsoon rains. However, during the next few days, Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance further and cover the rest of the country as well.

The southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Gujarat state and most parts of East Rajasthan. It has also covered remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Some more parts of West Rajasthan have also been covered.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 65.0°E, Dwarka, Surendranagar, Ajmer and Anoopgarh.

Conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State and Rajasthan during next 48 hours.

Southwest Monsoon has further advanced over Delhi and the NCR region, most parts of Haryana and Punjab including Chandigarh. It has also covered the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Madhya Pradesh.

Southwest Monsoon has also made an onset over Jaipur, Bundi and some parts of East Rajasthan. A combination of weather systems has been responsible for bringing in Monsoon rains over the region.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 22.0°N/ Longitude 65.0°E, Dwarka, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Bundi, Jaipur, Hisar and Bhatinda.

Conditions are favourable for Southwest Monsoon's onset over remaining parts of East Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and some more parts of West Rajasthan, Gujarat and North Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours.

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, South Gujarat state, West Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh. It has also covered some parts of East Rajasthan. The two weather systems prevailing on either side of the India coastline seem to have been instrumental in its progress.

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some parts of north Arabian Sea, extreme southern parts of Gujarat state and some more parts of southwest Madhya Pradesh. Only the western arm has made some progress.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Latitude 21.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 21.0°N/ Longitude 65.0°E, Veraval, Surat, Ratlam, Jhansi, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Una and Jammu.

Conditions are now favorable for onset of Monsoon over the northern plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi by end of June.

Moving at a rapid pace, Southwest Monsoon has progressed further into the remaining parts of Madhya Maharashtra, East Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.  It has also covered most parts of West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, entire Jammu & Kashmir and some parts of West Uttar Pradesh.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 20.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 20.0°N/ Longitude70.0°E, Dahanu, Ratlam, Jhansi, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Una and Jammu.

According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions remain conducive for the further advancement of western arm of the Monsoon in the span of next 3-4 days. While, eastern arm of the Monsoon will have to wait for at least a week for moving ahead and covering Delhi and other parts of the country.

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, Konkan, Marathwada and Vidarbha. It has also covered most parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some parts of southwest Madhya Pradesh and some more parts of East Madhya Pradesh.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Latitude 20.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 20.0°N/ Longitude70.0°E, Dahanu, Malegaon, Pachmarhi, Jabalpur, Sidhi, Patna and Raxaul.

Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some parts of north Arabian Sea, south Gujarat region and remaining parts of Madhya Maharashtra. It could also cover some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh. Remaining parts of Bihar will also be covered during next 48 hours.

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, entire Goa, some parts of south Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh and Southeast Uttar Pradesh. It has also covered some more parts of Vidarbha, Bihar and remaining parts of North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Latitude 17.0°N/ Longitude 60.0°E, Latitude 17.0°N/ Longitude 70.0°E, Harnai, Solapur, Nanded, Yeotmal, Chindwara, Sidhi, Patna, and Raxual.

Conditions are now favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, East Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of West Madhya Pradesh will also be covered during next 48 hours.

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka.

The Southwest Monsoon has now covered entire Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Simultaneously it has also covered some more parts of North Interior Karnataka, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Monsoon has also entered into some parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 70°E, Karwar, Gadag, Hanamkonda, Rajnandgaon, Ranchi and Forbesganj.

Weather conditions remain favourable for further progress of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

It will also enter into some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, entire Konkan & Goa and Marathwada. It may cover some parts of East Madhya Pradesh and some more parts of Bihar during next 2 days.

The Southwest Monsoon finally reached Kolkata on June 17. On Friday, the Monsoon had progressed further and covered remaining parts of Rayalaseema and Bay of Bengal. It has simultaneously covered most parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim. Monsoon has also entered into some parts of Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 70°E, Karwar, Gadag, Kurnool, Kalingapatnam, Cuttack, Jamshedpur and Forbesganj.

While, western arm of the Monsoon remains stagnant at Karwar, Karnataka.

Weather conditions remain conducive for the further progress of Monsoon 2016 into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea and entire Konkan & Goa and remaining parts of North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, entire Telangana and some more parts of Jharkhand and Bihar during next 2-­3 days.

It may cover some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh.

Advancing further, Southwest Monsoon has finally covered entire Northeast India and some parts of West Bengal. The eastern arm of the Monsoon is now passing through Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while the western arm remains stagnant at Karwar in Karnataka.

Besides this, it has also covered entire northeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of east-central Bay of Bengal, some more parts of west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 15°N/ Longitude 70°E, Karwar, Gadag, Ongole, Latitude 16°N / Longitude 85°E, Latitude 20°N / Longitude 90°E, Latitude 22°N / Longitude 90°E and Gangtok.

Weather models are indicating towards the favourable conditions for the further progress of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, entire Goa, some parts of Konkan region, South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and remaining parts of North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 4-5 days.

It is also likely to cover few parts of Telangana, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and remaining parts of Bay of Bengal during this period.

Weather conditions remain conducive for Southwest Monsoon to cover some more parts of Bay of Bengal and also move into parts of Northeast India during next 3-4 days.

The Southwest Monsoon has further progressed and has now covered entire Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It has also advanced into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, South Interior Karnataka, Central Bay of Bengal, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 14°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 14°N/ Longitude 70°E, Honavar, Anantapur, Ongole, Latitude 16°N / Longitude 85°E, Latitude 17°N / Longitude 90°E, and Latitude 18°N / Longitude 94°E.

According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions remain favourable for its further advancement, covering more parts Konkan & Goa, North Interior Karnataka, remaining parts of coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and central Bay of Bengal in next 2-3 days.

We expect Southwest Monsoon to strike Mumbai in span of next four days.

India's nodal agency, Indian Meteorological Department, has finally announced the onset of Southwest Monsoon over the Indian mainland of Kerala on June 8. The Monsoon has now covered remaining parts of South Arabian Sea, Maldives-Comorin area, most parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, few pockets of south Interior Karnataka, and remaining parts of South Bay of Bengal and some parts of Central Bay of Bengal.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 12°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 12°N/ Longitude 70°E, Kannur, Chennai, Latitude 14°N / Longitude 84°E, Latitude 17°N / Longitude 92°E, and Latitude 18°N / Longitude 94°E.

As per the weather models, weather conditions are quite conducive for Monsoon to advance further during the next 24 hours.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 7°N/ Longitude 60°E, Latitude 7°N/ Longitude 70°E, Latitude 7°N / Longitude 79°E, Latitude 11°N / Longitude 87°E, Latitude 14°N / Longitude 90°E, and Latitude 17°N / Longitude 95°E.

The weather conditions are now favourable for the further advancement and make onset over Kerala during next 24-48 hours.

After a brief gap, the Southwest Monsoon has progressed further. It has now covered some more parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Southwest and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 5°N/ Longitude 80°E, Latitude 11°N/ Longitude 87°E, Latitude 14°N / Longitude 90°E and Latitude 17°N / Longitude 95°E.

The weather conditions are now conducive for the further advancement and make onset over Kerala during next 2-3 days.

The Southwest Monsoon has further progressed into some more parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands on May 20.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Latitude 5°N/ Longitude 86°E, Latitude 8°N/ Longitude 87°E, Latitude 13°N / Longitude 91°E and Latitude 16°N / Longitude 95°E.

The weather conditions are now favourable for the further advancement of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of Southwest and North Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.

Updated on May 18, 2016 05:10 PM (IST): Southwest Monsoon makes onset over Andaman and Nicobar Islands

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Southwest Monsoon has finally arrived over some parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, entire South Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands and some parts of North Andaman Sea on May 18.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is passing through Latitude 5°N/ Longitude 86°E, Latitude 8°N/ Longitude 87°E, Hut Bay and Latitude 12°N / Longitude 99°E.

Weather conditions are favourable for the further progress of Southwest Monsoon over Sri Lanka and into some more parts of South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands and remaining parts of North Andaman Sea during next 3 to 4 days.

The onset of the Monsoon can be attributed to the deep depression in Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm within next 24 hours.

However, the timely onset of Monsoon does not have any association with the performance or further progress of the Southwest Monsoon.

Skymet Weather predicts that Southwest Monsoon is likely to make timely onset over Indian mainland of Kerala.

This year, we expect Monsoon 2016 will receive 105% of LPA (Long Period Average) of 889 mm of rainfall during four month long rainy season from June to September.
