Southwest Monsoon 2020has reachedKolkatatoday on June 12 at its scheduled time. Monsoon showers have intensified over the city of Kolkata today since morning. Until June 11, Alipore observatory of Kolkata has received 119 rain whereas the monthly average rainfall for June is 300.6 mm.
During the last 3 hours, between 08;30 hours and 11:30 hours,Aliporehas recorded 33 mm rain. These intense thundershower activities are expected to continue over the city for at least the next 2 to 3 hours.
Due to the well marked low pressure area over North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha, moderate humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata, leading to intense rain and thundershower activities.
We expect active monsoon conditions to continue over Kolkata for the next 2 to 3 days, moderate to heavy rains are expected.
There are bright chances that Kolkata will surpass its monthly average rainfall this year.
