Southwest Monsoon has covered entire Tamil Nadu, but has not given any significant rain over the state till now. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the state has been witnessing light rains with spot heavy rains at the few places.

So far, Chennai has recorded 2 mm of rain in June against the normal average of 56 mm. Similarly, Coimbatore has also recorded mere 0.2 mm of rain against the average of 27 mm.

On the other hand, Trichy witnessed good rain with 71 mm on June 6. In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Karaikal recorded 53 mm and Nagapattinam 34.5 mm. Coastal areas receive rainfall on account of sea and land breeze.

As per Skymet, this is not the rainiest period for Tamil Nadu unlike other neighbouring states. The state is located in rain shadow area and receives its majority of rainfall during Northeast Monsoon.

However, there is a change in the temperature profile. Maximum temperatures that were earlier settling in high 30s are now in low 30s or mid 30s. While minimum temperatures are in mid 20s.

According to the latest forecast, most places will continue to witness light rain during the next three to four days. While, isolated places will receive moderate rain during next 48 hours. Coastal stations could also see some good showers.
