Coastal RainWest Coast is one of the pockets in the country where heavy rainfall is recorded during the Monsoon season. Konkan and Goa and coastal Karnataka are high intensity weather pockets of the region with some stations recording four digit rainfall.

Simultaneous weather activity in terms of rainfall, all along the West Coast is not the characteristic of Monsoon in the region. However, rains could be location specific with heavy in pockets.

Rainfall activity along the West Coast during the beginning of last week was good and several places recorded moderate to heavy rains. Kerala was the only region where rainfall was subdued. But in the last couple of days Monsoon picked up in the city as well. For instance Thiruvananthapuram on June 28 received 119 mm of rain, while Kochi observed 96 mm of rain on June 27.

Konkan and Goa during this period was lying dormant. However, rainfall has picked up and in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Bhira has received 112 mm of rain, while Ratnagiri has recorded 75 mm of rain.

With this spell, the rainfall figures in Ratnagiri have shot up to 1119 mm. This includes consecutive days of three digit 24 hour rainfall from June 18 to June 21.

The off-shore trough extending from Maharashtra up to Kerala coast is giving rain in the Konkan region. According to Skymet meteorology Division in India, moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue for two more days in the region.
