Latest forecast by Skymet predicts that heavy rain will be lashing parts of Central India during the next 24 to 48 hours. This spell of heavy downpour is expected to go on till June 22.

The region has already been witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall since the onset of Southwest Monsoon on June 14 over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Particularly, south Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and southern Madhya Pradesh recorded good rainfall.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a low pressure area has developed over west-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra and adjoining Odisha coast. This system is expected to gain strength and will be moving westwards.

As the system shifts gradually, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur over parts of Central India, commencing from Telangana till South Gujarat via Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and South Madhya Pradesh.

The system will also influence the monsoon surge and will further cover more areas of Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and even touch Bihar.

The rain activity holds great significance as the agriculture in the region is rain dependent. It will restore the moisture level in the soil and will help in timely sowing of Kharif crop.
