After drenching northeastern parts and parts of Peninsular India during last two weeks, Southwest Monsoon is now on a smooth ride to advance and cover the central and eastern parts of India by the end of this week, according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India.
Moderate to heavy showers are expected over parts of Gujarat, southern parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh by Thursday. Southwest Monsoon is likely to reach upto West Bengal, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh by the end of this week. Light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers are expected in Kolkata, Patna, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Mirzapur.
Last week, cyclonic storm Ashobaa in the Arabian Sea had stalled the advance of Monsoon over India. However, the first Monsoon system is likely in Bay of Bengal which is expected to give strength to the Monsoon and help it advance further towards East and Central India.
The system will intensify into a low pressure which will move inland and give rain over Odisha and parts of Andhra Pradesh. As it travels further towards the West Coast of India, it will give a good amount of rain in parts of Gujarat including Surat and Maharashtra including Mumbai. Due to this rain will increase over the entire Peninsular India after 48 to 72 hours.
