Southwest Monsoon remains active over Northeast India, which is presently the wettest pocket in the country. In last 24 hours, fairly widespread rainfall has been recorded across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Manipur.
Isolated places across the region have recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall. Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded 514 mm of rain, while Goalpara in Assam received 110 mm in last 24 hours.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, cyclonic circulations over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam region and Bihar and Jharkhand are giving the rain over Northeast India. Moisture laden southerly winds from Bay of Bengal are bowing over the region.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, intensity of rain will further increase and heavy showers are expected to lash northeastern states during the next week.
People of the region are enjoying pleasant weather in wake of the ongoing rain activity. Maximum temperatures are settling in mid-20s and minimum temperatures are in low-20s.
