Southwest Monsoon remains vigorous over entire Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa including Mumbai. It continues to bring moderate to heavy rains over the state. All thanks to the upper air cyclonic circulation over Southwest Madhya Pradesh, extending up to mid tropospheric levels.
Fairly widespread Monsoon rains continued to lash most parts of Maharashtra for the third consecutive day. In fact, coastal areas have received heavy rains.
During last 21 hours, Mumbai has received 57 mm of rainfall and Ratnagiri received 60 mm. Mahabaleshwar also received 174 mm of rainfall. Aurangabad received 21 mm and Akola 26 mm of rainfall.
The weather system is likely to weaken gradually, reducing rains over the state. However, rains will continue at least for next 24 to 48 hours.
Maharashtra has received good rains so far this Monsoon season. Madhya Maharashtra has received 11% more rains than normal while Marathwada is 9% rain surplus. Vidarbha has also witnessed 4% more rainfall than the normal figures.
With more showers predicted for the state during rest of teh Monsoon system, we can hope that Maharashtra will end up receiving above normal rains this Monsoon season.
