Southwest Monsoon had arrived on time, and gathered pace in the first two phases. However, it did get stalled during the last week of June, and was very delayed over North India, making an arrival over Delhi as late as July 13.

The month of July was slightly on the deficit side with -7 percent and while the deficiency wasn’t too much, the deficiency in core Monsoon month is considered to be a big one. The month of August was very disappointing with a shortfall of 24 percent.

However, come September, and rains picked up pace and the month saw a surplus of 35 percent, moreover, a Cyclonic Storm also formed in the Bay this month, giving rains over East, Central and western parts of the country.

The four month long Monsoon season of 2021 has come to an end with about 99 percent of the LPA (Long Period Average). Overall, Monsoon this year has once again displayed a good performance being in the normal range. This is the third consecutive Monsoon month which is normal/above normal. Both 2019, and 2020 both of them were above normal, the third Monsoon has also been tandem and ended very close to the LPA.
