During the last 24 hours, Santa Cruz observatory of Mumbai recorded 20 mm and Colaba 11 mm of rain. Many places in Mumbai Suburban have recorded heavy downpours such as Ghansoli, Vasi, and Eastern suburbs. During the last 24 hours, Thane recorded 64mm rains, Matheran 81 mm, Jalgaon 82mm, and Aurangabad 124 mm of rain.
Currently, winds over Mumbai are easterly. Many parts of Mumbai have been receiving good rains since the last two days. These conditions are sufficient to declare the onset of monsoon over Mumbai.
In fact, many parts of Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and nearby district, have also recorded heavy rain and shower activities during the last 24 hours. The chances are bright for Southwest Monsoon 2020 to make onset over parts of Gujarat as well.
Southwest Monsoon 2020 has made an onset over Mumbai on time. Last year, the onset of Monsoon was delayed by two weeks over Mumbai. The Monsoon surge over the west coast is active, therefore, Mumbai is expected to witness heavy monsoon showers during next week, commencing from June 15 or 16.
