Southwest Monsoon arrives over Nicobar Islands, South Andaman Sea

Southwest Monsoon after much speculation has finally entered in its first leg. Monsoon 2017 has made an onset over parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, Nicobar islands, parts of North Andaman Sea as well as the entire South Andaman Sea.

Monsoon advanced as conditions had become favourable with southwesterly winds deepening and strengthening along with persisting cloudiness and heavy rains over the Islands.

Now, conditions have become favourable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon over parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, a few more areas of Southeast Bay of Bengal, east central Bay along with rest of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next 72 hours.

Currently, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is passing through Latitude 5°N/Longitude 86°E, Hut Bay and Latitude 14°N/ Longitude 98°E.

The persisting cyclonic circulation over Andaman Sea is expected to form into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours making conditions more favorable for the further advancement of Southwest Monsoon.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, during the next 24 hours, rainfall intensity is likely to be heavy to very heavy over isolated pockets of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Not only this, the wind speed is expected to reach around 40 kmph gusting up to 50 kmph during the next 2 to 3 days.

Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough over parts of Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal region today and tomorrow. Thereafter, similar conditions are likely over North Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast and eastcentral Bay of Bengal between May 15 -17. Fishermen are also advised to refrain from venturing into the sea.
