Heavy Monsoon rains lash Bareilly

Bareilly rainOnset of Monsoon over most parts of Uttar Pradesh was delayed with NLM covering the entire state only by June 25. The depression which turned into a low pressure area and moved towards Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh led to the advancement of Monsoon in Uttar Pradesh.

During this period some parts of the state, particularly Bareilly observed good rainfall. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the city received 91.6 mm of rain, which is the third highest 24 hour rainfall recorded in last decade in month of June. The highest rainfall amount in the city in last ten years is 193.7 mm, observed on June 26, 2013. This also happens to be the all-time highest rainfall for Bareilly.

With this spell, the city has recorded 131.2 mm of rain so far against the monthly average of 146.8 mm. And with forecast of light rain for the remaining days of the month, the city is expected to cross the monthly average rainfall.

Uttar Pradesh was the most deficient pocket in the country, in terms of rainfall. For instance, West Uttar Pradesh had received only 15 mm of rain against the average of 35 mm, which is 57% deficient. However, good rain in the last couple of days brought down the rainfall deficiency to 15%.

On the other hand East Uttar Pradesh during the same period had received 14.3 mm of rain against the average of 59.9 mm, which is short by 76%. The deficiency in the region still remains at 59% due to poor rains.
