Curtains will be drawn shortly on monsoon 2022 and will get concluded on 30thSeptember. Status quo is expected to be maintained and South India is likely to emerge as the wettest region, this season. All the meteorological sub divisions on the mainland, except Kerala, have received >100% of their normal ‘long period average’ rainfall. Kerala also has recorded rainfall within the normal limits, albeit with a shortfall of 11%.  South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu top the list, measuring large excess of 61% each, as of date.

2020 has been the rainiest of this lot with a seasonal surplus of 29%.. Though, 2022 is giving a chase but unlikely to surpass the previous mark. Heavy rains are not likely over the entire region in the remaining days of September. Moderate showers are likely in some pockets like North Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.  Weather activity generally picks up towards the fag end of month, over extreme southern parts of the country.
