South Peninsula Prepares for Increased rain Activity during next few days:

April 20, 2024 11:57 AM |

The South Indian peninsula is gearing up for a period of intensified rain activity as recent rainfall brings much-needed respite from the scorching heat and lingering rain deficit. Over the past 24 hours, coastal regions of Karnataka and Kerala, along with parts of interior Tamil Nadu, have received light to moderate rain. While most areas experienced a welcome downpour, Mangalore in coastal Karnataka saw heavy rainfall.

The rain is attributed to a trough stretching from Marathwada to Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka. This weather system is expected to further enhance rain and thunderstorms across the region, with a particular focus on interior Karnataka, Kerala, parts of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Karnataka is anticipated to receive the heaviest rainfall.

While not enough to erase the significant rain deficit of 72% across the South Peninsula between March 1 and April 18, this pre-monsoon activity is expected to provide some relief from the ongoing hot weather and improve regional rain statistics to some extent. Telangana, in particular, is expected to see increased rainfall activity within the next 24 hours, with the possibility of isolated heavy spells accompanied by thunderstorms and even hailstorms.
As these weather patterns unfold, rail authorities can expect increased activity on their networks. Therefore, the parched lands finally all set to receive some moisture.
