South Asian Games to continue unabated amidst rain in Northeast India

South Asian Games 2016 continues unabated in Guwahati and Shillong even though other parts of Northeast India have received scattered rains during the last 24 hours.

We can expect light to moderate rainfall to continue over Northeast India particularly over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

During last 24 hours, many areas received rain and thundershowers. Dibrugarh received 8 mm of rainfall, Pasighat 7 mm, Imphal 6 mm, North Lakhimpur 6 mm, Silchar 5 mm and Tejpur trace.

The ongoing South Asian games in Guwahati and Shillong will remain unaffected because over these two cities weather has been practically dry since the beginning. No rainfall activity is likely over the region for another 24 hours. However, isolated very light rain cannot be ruled out in these two cities.

Thereafter, rainfall will decrease significantly over most parts of Northeast India. Isolated places may receive light to very light rain but there will be no impact on the South Asian games. Weather will remain comfortable with cold morning hours and pleasant sunny afternoons in Guwahati. Minimum temperature will settle between 11 and 13 degree Celsius and maximum will hover around 25°C.

Shillong will be much colder with minimum temperature ranging between 6 to 7 degree Celsius in the morning hours and around 16°C during the day time.

February is not a rainy month for Northeast India but whenever a Western Disturbance travels along the foothills to reach the northeastern states, it brings scattered rains.
