After much speculation about the path of cyclone Vardah, it seems that the cyclonic storm is heading towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh.
At present, Cyclone Vardah has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and is seen over west central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal, near latitude 13.3°N and longitude 84.7°E.
Bursting with power, Vardah has now reached its maximum strength and it is expected to move in west-southwest direction. The landfall of cyclone is expected on December 12 during afternoon, close to Chennai.
Other than North Tamil Nadu, we can expect good rains to begin over South coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from the night of December 11. Districts such as Nellore, Prakasham, Guntoor and Anantpur will witness light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.
From the morning of December 12, the intensity of rains will increase over these districts including the areas of Tamil Nadu. Strong gusty winds at a speed of 70-80kmph can be expected over the areas by tomorrow noon. Low-lying areas near coastal region may get flooded with water as the 5-7 feet of storm surge is possible over North Tamil Nadu coast.
For the same, precautionary measures has been taken by National Disaster Management Authority.
