South Andhra Pradesh and north coast of Tamil Nadu to receive heavy rainfall

November 20, 2022 6:19 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The well-marked low pressure area has intensified into a depression over southwest and adjoining parts of West Central Bay of Bengal. In the wake of this system, light rain has already commenced over coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

These rain activities will intensify gradually and their may be moderate to heavy showers over southern parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh places like Tirupathi, Kavali and Nellore may receive heavy rain. Similarly, northern parts of coastal Tamil Nadu such as Chennai, Puducherry, Thiruvallur and Vellore may also receive intense rains.

The depression will gradually move towards north coast of Tamil Nadu and adjoining parts of South coastal Andhra Pradesh. However, the intensity of this weather system will reduce gradually before reaching the coast. Dry westerly winds will weaken the system leading to degeneration. Therefore, we expect this weather system to reach over the coast as a well marked low or low pressure.

Rain activities will continue with good intensity until November 22nd. Thereafter, the intensity of rain will go down but spread of rain will increase. Light rain with one or two moderate spells may cover parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. We do not expect any significant weather activity over Southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Impact of this weather system will be felt over parts of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu until November 23rd or 24.

Another low pressure area likely to develop over Andaman Sea and adjoining parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 25th. The low pressure area may give heavy rains over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 25th and 26th. The low pressure area will gradually turn in a northeast direction towards Myanmar. Therefore, we do not expect any impact over east coast of the country
