The tale of good rains in the Northeastern states of the country does not seem to end here. The region has been witnessing on and off spells since the arrival of Monsoon and after a brief lull period, the northeastern states of the country became rainy once again.

Rains have been occurring over parts of Northeast India from the last 24-48 hours. Though the intensity of these showers was mainly light with a few isolated moderate spells. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Aizawl recorded 25 mm of rains, Majbat 23 mm, Lumding 22.6 mm, Lengpui 16 mm, Guwahati 16 mm, Tezpur 10 mm, Pasighat 9 mm, Imphal 7 mm and Cherrapunji witnessed 6.8 mm of rains.

It is due to the axis of Monsoon trough that the Northeastern states of the country recorded moderate showers at many places, particularly, the western parts of Assam witnessed good showers.

As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is running up to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is over southeast Bangladesh due to which moisture incursion will increase over parts of the northeastern states.

On account of this, moderate rains at many places with heavy at one or two places are likely to continue until September 3 over almost all the northeastern states of India. Thereafter, the intensity of rains are expected to reduce over the NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura) region but Assam may continue with a few moderate spells until September 5.

Due to heavy spells in the region, chances of flooding in Assam are also high.
