July has not been good for Solapur in terms of rainfall. So much so that the city had only recorded a mere 16.2 mm so far. While the region of Madhya Maharashtra displayed a good performance in terms of rain in July, Solapur was left slightly behind.

In fact, during the entire month of July, Solapur has not witnessed any significant rainfall activity. While temperatures remained in the comfortable range, rain gods decided to turn their backs against this city which lies in the Madhya Maharashtra region.

However, Solapur did receive a good 7 mm of rain a day before bringing in some hope for the residents. The last 21 hours have been miraculous for the city as a whopping 105 mm of rainfall which happens to be the highest in the last 5 years during the month of July.

The last time the city did receive such good rains in July was on July 5, 2011. In fact, even before that in the last decade such good rains have not been received.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over the Andhra Coast, due to which moisture incursion has increased over the region. The weather system is likely to persist for another 24 hours, which is why more rains are likely over the city and its adjoining areas.

Currently, the sub division of Madhya Maharashtra is observing a rainfall surplus of a good 19 percent. This spell of rains may help the region reach the excess rainfall category as well.
