Every year, Gujarat faces the summer heat starting March itself. However, this year the state observed fairly good weather condition due to rain and hailstorm during the first half of the month. The wet spell gave the people of Gujarat a few days of respite from the usual hot March.

Nonetheless, the weather is back to being hot and humid in Gujarat. Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 38.7°C, which is 4 degrees above normal. This is the highest maximum of the season. The maximum temperature at Amreli was recorded at 39.8°C, which is again 4 degrees above normal. Baroda was not left far behind where the day temperature was recorded at 40°C. Bhuj crossed the 40 degree mark and the temperature reached to 40.2°C. Rajkot also recorded the season’s highest temperature at 39.3°C.

Coastal stations of Gujarat that usually enjoy normal temperatures have also been observing soaring day temperatures. Viraval observed a maximum temperature of 38.7°C, which is 8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in Surat reached to 39.7°C, 4 degrees above normal. Porbandar recorded the maximum temperature at 38.5°C, which is again 6 degrees above normal.

Gujarat usually enjoys pleasant nights, but this season the minimum temperatures have also been on a rise. The minimum in Bhuj is 5 to 7 degrees above normal. No respite is expected from the rising temperatures in the next 48 hours. However, on March 25 and 26, due to a cyclonic circulation, wind patterns are expected to change. This may result in the drop of temperatures by a few degrees.
