Northern hills of the country have remained rain and snow free from past couple of days. However, those who are planning to tour the majestic and popularly known as “heaven on earth”, Kashmir, on weekend might have to halt their plans for a few more days. As per the weatherman, the hilly state of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness heavy snowfall on weekend.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas on February 3. This is expected to give heavy to very heavy snowfall in the Northern hills of the country including Jammu and Kashmir along with the chances of snow in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as well.
As per Skymet Weather, Kashmir is likely to observe light snowfall on February 3 while the possibility of heavy snow is foreseen from the evening of February 4. This snowfall is predicted to continue until February 6. Thereafter, weather condition will become clear over the Western Himalayas, mostly in Jammu and Kashmir until the next significant weather system approaches.
Just a few days back, hefty snowfall had resulted in avalanches that had hit the army base camps at various sectors in Kashmir claiming more than dozens of lives. Conditions are conducive for such weather again in Kashmir.
As the fresh snow is loose in nature, it is more prone to slipping down, paving way for calamities like avalanches. Hence, army personnel have been advised to take extra caution against the snowfall that could result in avalanches.
