The northern hills of the country have been witnessing snow and rains since the month of February began. All thanks to the back to back successive Western Disturbances which gave rain and snow over the northern hills of the country.
Most of the popular hills stations of North India were enveloped in white snow. In fact, higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir even was on high alert of avalanches as well during the first few days of February.
For the past three to four days, the hills of North India were witnessing dry weather conditions due to the presence of a feeble Western Disturbance. Moreover, the temperatures too were settling above normal over most parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
However, now, as per Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayan region and affect the North Indian hills on the evening of February 14. This is likely to give scattered rain and snow to the hilly states of North India.
During this time, the intensity and spread of rain and snow are also expected to increase, likely to cover most parts of these hilly states including Uttarakhand as well.
Skymet further states that a series of back to back Western Disturbances are likely over the Western Himalayas. Therefore, the northern hills of the country are likely to witness continuous rain and snow for another 3-4 days. Isolated areas may even witness heavy snow accumulations.
The day temperatures are also expected to witness a significant decrease. However, thereafter, minimums may also witness a fall.
