A Western disturbance is affecting the Western Himalayan region, due to which rain and snow are continuing over both Jammu and Kashmir as well as Himachal Pradesh. Now, the system is likely to start affecting Uttarakhand, resulting in rain and snow over many areas of the state as well.
Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are likely to continue over all the three hilly states until tomorrow. However, intensity will be lesser tomorrow as compared to the hefty rain and snowfall today. By tomorrow night, Western Disturbance will start moving away and the intensity of rain and snow will reduce. Chances of avalanches and landslides in higher reaches cannot be ruled out along with snowstorms in many parts.
There will be a gap of two to three days, after which another Western Disturbance which will be much stronger in nature, will affect the Western Himalayas around February 5. Thus, light to moderate rain and snow will begin over Jammu and Kashmir around the same time.
Gradually, the intensity and spread of these rain and thundershowers will increase and cover more parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy rain and snow will continue over these parts between February 6 and 8. Avalanches, landslides will also occur over the higher reaches.
Thereafter, when the system moves away, temperatures will start to reduce over the plains as icy cold winds will make their way towards the plains of North India. Both maximum and minimum temperatures will drop due to which winter chill will once again make its appearance.
