After a steep deviation of almost 13°C from the normal, day temperature in several parts of Himachal Pradesh is expected to bounce back tomorrow onwards as snow subsides.
After experiencing an unprecedented snowfall over the weekend, several places in Himachal Pradesh are likely to get relief from the tight grip of intense cold. The snow is expected to cease today, resulting in steep rise in day temperature.
A thick blanket of snow had put life out of gear and dropped day temperatures close to sub-zero condition in last two days. The light rain in low hills and snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh led to a decrease in maximum temperature.
The maximums recorded yesterday were 10-13°C below normal in several parts of the hilly state. While Kalpa witnessed a maximum temperature of 0.2°C which was nine degrees below normal, Kullu’s maximum temperature was 4.7°C which was 13 degrees below normal.
For the popular hill station, Shimla, maximums settled at 5.2°C which was seven degrees below normal.
Usually such sharp drop in day temperature, during this period of December, is observed in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. However, in a unique occurrence where western disturbance travelled from northeast direction to southwestwards, the snowfall occurred in Himachal Pradesh before Jammu and Kashmir.
