The month of December was mild and not much weather activity was observed over the plains as well as the hills of North India. However, on Christmas day, the residents of Shimla witnessed snow. It was magical in its own sense as the city had not seen a white Christmas in 24 years.

Thereafter, during the first week of January, snow once again made an appearance over the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. In fact, this was the first heavy snow spell observed over the city during this winter season.

At present, the weather has cleared up. However, severe cold wave conditions have been wreaking havoc over Shimla. In fact, the minimum temperature settled at -3.2 degrees yesterday. So much so that ten people lost their lives due to severe cold wave conditions.

There has been some relief in terms of temperatures and the minimum has increased to -0.6 degrees today.

However, cold wave conditions continue to grip Shimla and its adjoining areas. Now, during the next 24 hours, weather conditions will continue to remain the same.

A fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas on January 14. Thus, rain and snow is likely over Jammu and Kashmir as well as parts of Himachal Pradesh. Not only this, Shimla is expected to get a snowy surprise on January 14 night onward.

On January 14 and 15, moderate to heavy rain and snow is expected over the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. Thus, residents are expected to enjoy some more snow in the coming weekend.
