Snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir to reduce, likely to pick up in HP, Uttarakhand

The period of widespread snow and rain over Jammu and Kashmir is about to get over but the other two Himalayan states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness more snowfall and rain during the next two days.

According to our forecast, the Western Disturbance which currently lies over Jammu & Kashmir is expected to move east-northeastwards and would be over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to bring good amount of snow and rain in these states.

In the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday till 8:30 am on Friday, heavy snowfall has been reported from different parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Gulmarg and Banihal in the state received 58.2 and 52.9 mm of rain and snow respectively while, the summer capital Srinagar reported 19.4 mm of rain and snow during the period.

In Himachal Pradesh, Keylong has been lashed by 46 mm of rain while, Kullu reported 48.4 mm of rain and snow in the last 24 hours. Manali recorded 37 mm of rain. Capital Shimla also witnessed 12.2 mm of rain and snow during this period.

In Uttarakhand, rain has been reported at almost all the weather stations on Thursday. Almora, Dehradun, Joshimath, Mukteshwar, Mussorie and Nainital received light snow and rain during the last 24 hours and will continue to receive snow and rain for the next two days.

After the Western Disturbance moves away, no other weather system is expected over Jammu & Kashmir for a week or so. Due to this reason the weather in North India will turn dry.
