After continuous snowfall over the hilly state of Jammu and Kashmir, the air traffic at the Srinagar Airport has been disrupted. All the flights are suspended since yesterday evening due to bad weather.
As per the director of Airports Authority of India (AAI) Sharad Kumar, no flight operations took place at Srinagar airport today because of the bad weather. He said that both the incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled thanks to the snowy spell.
Without any flight able to land at the airport all the flights were cancelled. Even the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed to fresh snowfall and slippery roads.
Many areas of state, especially the higher reaches witnessed fresh snowfall last night. The plains areas of the state including Srinagar witnessed irregular snowfall since this morning.
Such heavy snowfall can be attributed to the back to back western disturbances over entire hilly regions of North India. The snowfall is expected to hit most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till January 27. Thereafter the western disturbance will move away and weather activity will ease out.
