As predicted by Skymet Weather, hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have recorded scattered rain and thundershowers during the last 24 hours. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Gulmarg recorded 8 mm of rain, followed by Qazigund 4 mm, Srinagar 2 mm, Manali 6mm, Dharamsala 4 mm, and Kullu 4 mm.
These ongoing weather activities can be attributed to the passage of a fresh Western Disturbance, which is presently moving across the state. With this, light to moderate rains would continue over all the three states for the next 24 hours. There are chances of light snowfall over the higher reaches of these states as well.
In fact, Rohtang Pass, Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu districts have already reported snowfall to the tune of 6 inches on Monday. In wake of this, traffic movement has been adversely affected on Manali-Leh Highway between Rani Nallah and Rohtang Pass.
Bus transport has been temporarily suspended on Keylong-Manali route. Local authorities have advised all locals and tourists to refrain from travelling all these places.
However, weather would start clearing up October 9 onwards, as the Western Disturbance would clear up the region.
As per weathermen, the hilly states would witness clear weather conditions for the next four to five days. Weather would be pleasant during the day with some cold nights and mornings. We are not expecting any Western Disturbance to effect the weather of hilly states for the next few days.
As we progress further, we would see increase in frequency of these weather systems. During this time of the year, these Western Disturbances travel in higher latitude, keeping the majority weather activity confined to the higher reaches only.
As we near thick of winters, both the frequency and intensity would increase and they would also start travelling in lower latitudes. They would then start giving weather over entire states, both in terms of widespread snow as well as rains.
