A brief period of relief from rising temperatures in Delhi is expected as the city finally received short spell of rain last night. With snowfall in Srinagar and spell of thunderstorm in Delhi and around, the minimum temperatures in the capital city is expected to drop by 2-4 degree Celsius while day temperatures are likely to see a drop by 1-2 degree Celsius.

Delhi has been witnessing 6-8 degrees above normal temperatures in the last few days. Though the temperatures will drop marginally, they will still remain above normal.

The weather systems in the higher reaches have given snowfall and after that changed the winds to southeasterlies due to which the humidity levels increased in Delhi. Obscurity levels had also risen and suspended particles were not allowing the heat to escape due to which the temperatures were rising.

Widespread rainfall was also observed in parts of Punjab in last 24 hours that includes Amritsar with 21 mm, Jalandhar 22 mm, Kapurthala 26 mm and Ludhiana 19 mm of rain. While Chandigarh received 12 mm of rain, it was 7 mm in Delhi.

The chances of short spell of rain in Delhi and parts of Punjab are likely tonight. After this the induced circulation is expected to move away, followed by a western disturbance around 23rd February.
