Snowfall in kashmir hills

After a dry start, the month of January ended on a snowy note for the residents of Kashmir. The prevailing Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir gave light to moderate rain and snow over Kashmir during the last few days. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Gulmarg recorded precipitation to the tune of 14 mm, Qazi Gund 2 mm and Srinagar 1 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance is now moving away eastwards. Henceforth, we expect light rain and snow to continue until today evening only. Places such as Srinagar, Pahalgam Gulmarg, and Qazi Gund are likely to some more record rain and snow.

However, the weather will continue to remain dry over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In spite of scattered rain and snow, both the maximum and minimum temperatures settled above normal over Jammu and Kashmir. It is anticipated that after 24 to 48 hours the minimum temperatures might fall marginally but they would not settle below normal.

Another feeble Western Disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir. However, we do not expect much weather activity by this system but isolated rain and snow will make an appearance over higher reaches of Kashmir.

Moreover, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will once again not record any rain and snow activity but the sky would become partly cloudy to cloudy.
