Jammu and Kashmir receive snow ; rain in Delhi from Monday

Snow in Jammu and KashmirA fresh Western Disturbance is affecting North India and is presently prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan. The system has given snow and rain over higher and lower reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, system has also caused clouding over hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and plains including Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Parts of Jammu and Kashmir and north Punjab are expected to witness rain by today itself.

In wake of the system, the minimum temperatures are expected to increase, while maximum temperature will start dropping. Jammu and Kashmir have already observed a rise in minimums as Srinagar recorded minimum temperature of -0.2°C on Sunday morning against -2.9°C on Saturday. Similarly, Gulmarg and Pahalgam also recorded rise in night temperatures at -6°C and -3.4°C, respectively, against -8°C and -6.8°C on Saturday.

As the system move eastwards, we can expect rain and snow over higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh by tomorrow morning. Famous tourist destinations Manali, Shimla and Kufri will be also receiving snowfall. While rain is expected in plains of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi by Monday evening, lasting till Tuesday evening and ceasing thereafter.

According to Skymet, the system is expected to move away by February 3, which will be shortly followed by another Western Disturbance around February 7 or 8.

Western Disturbances become frequent during winters and are responsible for affecting the weather in the region to a large extent. These systems after approaching the region usually stay for 1-2 days and give short spells of rain. The system is called Western Disturbance due to its movement from west to east
