Nagpur is one of Maharashtra’s hot spots for tourists. It won’t be long before the phrase takes a literal meaning for the residents and travelers in Nagpur. Summer 2015 has begun to show its mark in the Orange city and heat wave- like condition is likely to tighten its grip around the city, leading to hot, uncomfortable days.

The city that is not only popular for its oranges but notoriously famous for some of the hottest days is set to experience blistering heat where mercury is expected to soar beyond 40°C. According to Skymet, day temperature is likely to rise from now on, touching 45-degree mark during the first week of May.

“While April remained relatively cooler, May in Nagpur will not see any respite from the severe heat due to the absence of any significant weather system. Most places in Maharashtra will see maximum temperature settling above normal and Nagpur is one of them,” says G.P. Sharma, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather Services.

Summer woes in the city are likely to multiply as there is no possibility of winds flowing across the city. The weather in Nagpur will, therefore, be dry and harsh in next few days.

Weather extremes in April

April turned out to be a month of weather extremes in Nagpur as last month, the city received rainfall that was five times more than the normal average rainfall. With 38.5 mm of rainfall, the city received one of the heaviest rainfall in last ten years. The city also recorded 44.5°C as the maximum temperature on 28th April that was the highest since 2009 in Nagpur.
