Sizzling heat in Delhi to ease up, rain possible tomorrow

May 2, 2016 5:47 PM |

Cloudy weather in DelhiLike April, May too has started on hotter note for Delhi. On May 1, Safdarjung Observatory recorded day maximum of 42°C, while Palam Observatory observed 44.2°C.

But as reiterated by Skymet Weather, Delhiites are likely to get relief from heatwave like conditions during next 48 hours on account of approaching pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers.

Beginning May 3, Delhi is likely to witness isolated thunderstorm or thundershowers activity, with intensity increasing thereafter.

According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan is moving eastward changing the wind pattern to moist southwesterly winds. Increased levels of humidity along with high temperatures are likely to develop thunderclouds leading to thunderstorm and dust storm activities over Delhi-NCR during next the 24 hours. Some areas may also experience light rain with strong winds.

These isolated dust storm and thundershowers activities are likely to continue till May 5. The approaching wet spell will decrease the temperatures, ushering in much-needed relief. Particularly, nights and mornings are likely to be pleasant.

May is likely to be far better than April, which saw some unexceptional hot weather.

Pre-Monsoon activity is likely to increase and we can expect on and off rains to continue throughout the month with a gap of 3-4 days, predicts Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet Weather. With this, Delhi could also surpass its monthly average rainfall of 22.7 mm.

April 2016 was the second hottest April in last decade after 2010, with average maximum temperature of 38.5°C.
