Summers in Chennai

Dry weather has been prevalent in Chennai for a long time now. The reason for this elongated dry spell can be attributed to the absence of any weather system that could bring rains in the region. The last rainy spells that the city had observed was on May 17 when the city recorded 0.1 mm of rains.

In a similar manner, a day before also, Chennai observed a few rainy traces. Since then, Chennai has remained parched. In the wake of this, despite the fact that Chennai is a coastal city, the temperatures also settled at more than 40°C.

In the last 24 hours also, the maximums in Chennai was at 40.1°C. Very warm and humid weather has been prevailing over the region and this has intensified the prevalent uneasy conditions. Along with sultry afternoons, the nights were also warm.

The reason for these sultry and humid weather conditions prevailing in parts of Chennai can be attributed to the dry and warm westerly winds that are blowing over the region. Moreover, as the temperature levels along the East Coast is also rising, hence it has also gripped Chennai along with it.

Furthermore, the situation is likely to remain like this for at least another 2-3 days and hence the Chennaiites can expect no relief in the ongoing weather situations. However, significant relief is expected after May 26 when the mercury levels will witness a noteworthy drop.
