Pune and Nasik are enjoying pleasant weather conditions since the beginning of wintry weather over north India. While northern plains are shivering with cold days and cold wave conditions, Madhya Maharashtra in general and Pune-Nasik, in particular, are observing cosy weather conditions. Lee side of the Western Ghats has typical short bursts of cold weather and mostly remains 'at ease' for most of the winter period.
Twin cities of Pune and Nasik remain far from reach of western disturbance and the cold sweeps of northern plains. Both cities are witnessing pleasantly warm afternoon with day temperature in low 30's and the minimum hovering in double digit, just short of teens. Pune -Shivajinagar recorded minimum of 12.5 deg and Nasik clicking 10.6 deg, today morning. Maximum temperature hovered in low 30's at 32.1deg and 30.2deg respectively.
Western disturbance is likely to approach Northern Mountains on 06th night and stay put across the hills around the weekend and beyond. Seasonal anticyclone over Rajasthan will get pushed and cold north-easterly winds are likely to reach north Madhya Maharashtra. These land winds are usually colder than the seasonal stream and therefore result sharp drop in the mercury levels.
Single digit minimum temperatures are expected for the twin cities commencing 08th Jan and lasting for the next few days. Invariably, the cold snap does not last for more than 3-4 days and reverts back to normal, rather quickly. Minimum temperature may slide down to about 8-9 deg, about 4 degree below the normal.
