Simultaneous Monsoon rains in four states of Peninsular India

Rain in  KeralaSouthwest Monsoon has been active simultaneously over all the four states of Peninsular India, namely Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have received fairly widespread rainfall during last 24 hours. All thanks to the trough extending from the cyclonic circulation over West Bengal, across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The off-shore trough can be seen running between Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Therefore, Kerala and Coastal Karnataka have received good Monsoon rains as well.

Here's a look at the rainfall figures in Peninsular India in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday:

Widespread rain and thundershowers are expected to continue for another 2 days over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Normally during El Nino years, Southern Peninsula of India remains at risk of drought or poor Monsoon rains. This time as well most parts of the Peninsula, barring Tamil Nadu did not perform well.

Rayalaseema was rain deficit to the tune of 32% till August 21, when this region received 30 mm of rainfall against the normal of 5.3 mm for the day. Rainfall deficit has now come down to 21%.
