Almost the entire North India is gripped by winter chills that are leading to cold wave and cold day conditions at many pockets of the region. The prolonged dry spell that is prevailing in the plains of North India is leading to these cold wave conditions during the night and cold day conditions during the afternoon hours.
One such state is Rajasthan that is also wearing the brunt of freezing minimums. The temperatures across parts of this desert state are witnessing a significant drop in the minimum temperatures. Particularly the districts of East and North Rajasthan have observed a jaw-dropping fall in the last 24 hours.
While, in the last 24 hours, the only hill spot of the state, Mount Abu witnessed the minimums dropping to sub-zero levels settling at -1.4°C, Sikar also clocked and reached a freezing 0°C. The other pockets of the state that have witnessed a noteworthy drop in the minimums include Sri Ganganagar with 1.7°C, Pilani 1.9°C, Churu 2°C, Alwar 2.2°C, Chittorgarh 2.5°C, Udaipur 3.8°C and Tonk 3.9°C.
According to Skymet Weather, the minimums usually rise under three conditions; namely when it rains, when the clouding increases and when the wind pattern changes which happens in the presence of any significant weather system.

However, North India is at present free from any significant weather system that could possibly let all these three pre-conditions to meet. Thus, in the absence of any significant weather system over North India for almost the last couple of days, the region is reeling under dry and thus cold winter chill.
Furthermore, as of now also, no big relief is on cards for Rajasthan as no significant weather system that could fulfill the pre-conditions for the minimums to rise is anticipated. Thus, for the next 2-3 days, the minimums in Rajasthan are not expected to rise in fact, a few isolated pockets may witness a marginal drop as well.
Minimums will continue to remain in the lower single digits and cold wave and cold day conditions at a few places are also expected to prevail.
