The city of Hyderabad last received scattered rains on January 25 and 27 when many districts of Telangana received good rains and thundershower activities. This rainy period was also accompanied with scattered hailstorm which resulted in crop damage at many places. Thereafter, Telangana has been experiencing dry weather conditions.
Rainfall performance so far
As a matter of fact, Telangana is one of the states which has received large excess rains during this season. At present the state’s departure from normal stands at +201%.
The reason for such a good rainfall performance in the state during Winters is the average rainfall figure which stands at a meagre 7.7 mm. Thus, a few good spells are enough to surpass this normal.
Rains for the state ahead
Now, a Confluence Zone is expected from East Madhya Pradesh to Telangana around February 14, therefore we anticipate scattered light to moderate rain and thundershower over parts of Telangana around February 14 and 16. During this spell, hailstorm activities cannot be ruled out over the northern districts. However, these rains will remain localized over Northern Telangana and we expect weather in Hyderabad to remain dry.
By February 17, the confluence zone will shift towards East leading to dry weather over Telangana and Hyderabad.
