Shifting Monsoon trough to bring down rain deficiency in East and Northeastern States

September 12, 2018 8:28 PM | Skymet Weather Team

East and Northeast India is one of the most rain deficient regions in the country till now. Almost all the states in East and Northeast are showing a negative value of rain till now. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and remaining Northeast states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are rain deficient.

All the states in East and Northeast have received less than normal rainfall. Although since last few days rains have increased over Northeast and Eastern India due to shifting of the axis of Monsoon trough.

Moreover, a low-pressure area has also formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and affected Eastern states. Now we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Northeastern states.

Scattered light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells may also occur over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Northern parts of Odisha during the next 2-3 days.

These rains may bring down rain deficiency over these areas to some extent. Thereafter rain intensity will start decreasing. Although, scattered light rains will continue.

So, we can say monsoon for East and Northeast India will end on a deficient note.
