Fog remained inconspicuous in most parts of Delhi and North India on Saturday morning. East India also reported fairly clear weather but thick fog enveloped north and western parts of Madhya Pradesh for the second consecutive day. Visibility reduced to 50 meters in Bhopal, while Gwalior observed zero visibility.
Fog in North India
On Saturday morning only a couple of stations of North India reported dense fog. Amritsar reported 200 meters visibility but Chandigarh remained fog free.
Delhiites woke up to a fog free Saturday morning. However, the visibility at the Palam airport dropped to nil causing flight delays and cancellations. Shallow fog was observed in few areas like Dwarka and Model Town. Other parts of the national capital were devoid of any fog.
Air traffic was affected in Delhi causing delay in departure of seven and cancellation of six flights. At the arrival, 5 flights were cancelled.
Fog in East India
Only shallow fog was reported in parts of East India. In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow reported shallow with 800 meters of lowest visibility, while Agra observed very dense fog. Gaya and Patna in Bihar reported 800 meters of visibility. Visibility dropped to 800 meters in Raipur as well. Siliguri in Sub Himalayan West Bengal witnessed thick fog with 100 meters of lowest visibility.
Fog hampers rail traffic across India
Nonetheless, rail traffic remains affected with 116 trains being delayed across the country. A few trains running behind schedule include Sridham Superfast Express (New Delhi - Jabalpur) by 10 hours, Purva Express (New Delhi – Howrah) by 19 hours, Mahakushal Express (Hazrat Nizamuddin – Jabalpur) by 7 hours, Vikramshila Express (Anand Vihar – Bhagalpur) by 23 hours.
