Shallow fog to continue over East India

Moderate to dense fog has been shrouding parts of the country from past few days now. In fact, today as well, most of the eastern part of the country observed shallow fog.

Early morning today as well, Lucknow and Varanasi recorded a low visibility of 800 meters. While Imphal in the northeastern region also witnessed low visibility of 50 meters. Though, most of the northern plains including Delhi and NCR escaped foggy conditions early morning today.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for this drop in foggy weather is due to the shift of the wind direction from Southwesterly to northwesterly. An active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is seen over Punjab and Haryana region, however, the northern plains escaped fog.

Similar weather conditions are expected to grip the eastern part of the country and shallow to moderate fog is expected to continue for next 2-3 days.

Saturday did witness the first wintry showers over the northern plains including the national capital and adjoining regions along with parts of Haryana and Punjab. Though shallow fog then gripped these areas but today, fog escaped the northern part of the country and areas like Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad did not witness foggy morning.

However, due to low visibility level, flights and rail services have been disrupted and several trains are also running behind time. Track then train status here.
