On Sunday morning, people across East India witnessed shallow fog, however it was location specific. While North India continue to observe fog free mornings. According to Skymet, as we enter into the month of February, we will see a decline in fog, both in terms of density and frequency.

Fog in North India

Palam Airport in Delhi reported visibility of up to 700 meters, while other places including NCR region such as Laxmi Nagar, Model Town, Vikaspuri, Lajpat Nagar, Noida Expressway, Faridabad and Indirapuram remained devoid of any fog.

Places in Punjab have good visibility conditions with Amritsar reporting 2000 meters and Chandigarh 5000 meters. Meanwhile, Lucknow in central Uttar Pradesh reported some fog with visibility up to 300 meters, while Agra had visibility of 2500 meters.

According to Skymet, reason behind the fog free morning in the region is the Western Disturbance, which is prevailing over North Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir and a cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan. Both the weather system have caused clouding over the hilly states and plains as well.

Fog in East India

Gorakhpur was the only place in East India to report very dense fog as visibility dropped to zero, followed by Allahabad with visibility of 400 meters. Meanwhile other places such as Patna and Varanasi reported visibility of 800 meters. Siliguri too had fairly good visibility conditions at 1200 meters.
