The cyclone Ockhi over Southeast Arabian Sea continues to travel in west-northwest direction. The system has already intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and lay centered over Southeast Arabian Sea near Latitude 8.8º N and Longitude 74.0º E, about 110 km north-northeast of Minicoy and 290 km southeast of Amini Divi.
During the past 24 hours, moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy spells lashed the state of Kerala. However, these showers were mainly confined to the southern districts of the state in comparison to North Kerala. These rains have thrown the normal life out of gear and caused huge traffic jams across Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

Cyclone Ockhi has already claimed nine lives across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In fact, Lakshadweep region remain on high alert.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Punalur recorded a whopping 92 mm of rains, Thiruvananthapuram 79 mm, Alappuzha 16 mm, Kochi 8 mm and Kottayam 7 mm.
The system is anticipated to become more marked during the next 24 hours. It is likely to continue moving in west-northwest direction across Lakshadweep Islands during the next 24 hours and then track north-northeastwards during the next 48 hours.

As per Skymet Weather, the rains are likely to reduce over Kerala gradually, particularly over the regions of South Kerala. Places such as Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kollam, Kochi, and Kottayam are expected to record light to moderate rains with isolated heavy falls during the next 24 hours.
Whereas the northern districts of the state will witness light rains with isolated moderate showers during the same time frame. Sea conditions will remain rough over South Coastal Kerala for at least the next 24 hours.
