After freezing days, it is now night temperatures that are wreaking havoc across Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
The weekend has kick-started on a chilly note, with the Safdarjung Observatory recording minimum temperature at 2.4 degree Celsius on Saturday morning. This has been the lowest of the season so far and also lowest temperature recorded during December since 2013.
Palam Observatory has also recorded the lowest minimum in the season at 3.1 degree Celsius today. In fact, stations like Aayanagar and Lodhi Road was even much lower at 1.9 degree Celsius and 1.7 degree Celsius, respectively.
We are afraid that with no changes in the prevailing weather conditions, minimum temperatures to even dip further today.
Severe cold alert has already been issued across the national capital. Average day maximum temperature for December in 1997 was 17.3 degree Celsius, while this year December so far average is 19.3 degree Celsius. Thus, December 2019 has been the second coldest since 1901.
According to weathermen, unabated chilly northwesterly winds would continue for the next two days. We can expect some relief thereafter as an active Western Disturbance would obstruct the flow of these chilly winds. We can also expect rain over Delhi between December 31 and January 2
