Severe cold wave strikes Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, minimum settles near freezing point

It has not only been a ruthless winter for the people of North India but Central India, particularly Madhya Pradesh is also observing similar weather conditions.

According to Skymet meteorologists, cold wave conditions have gripped the state of Madhya Pradesh for the last few days. Several places in the state are recording a minimum close to 3 degrees Celsius.

For instance, the minimum temperature in Gwalior and Datia today morning dropped to a bone-chilling 2.2 degrees Celsius which is cold wave (Temperature recording 4 degrees or less is cold wave). Umaria and Guna also saw the night temperature settle at a biting 2.4 degrees Celsius and 3 degrees Celsius, respectively.

It is not only the night temperature that has seen a massive drop but the day conditions have also deteriorated in the state. The maximum has dropped to a level where cold day conditions have been declared in several places like Sidhi, Khajuraho, Datia, Gwalior and Satna.

This cold condition in the state is being observed due to continuous flow of icy cold northwesterly winds from the Western Himalayas

Chhattisgarh Weather

Meanwhile, the neighbouring state Chhattisgarh is also witnessing similar weather condition. The night temperature here is recording 3-4 degrees below normal on an average in several places.

According to the data available with Skymet, the minimum temperature in Ambikapur settled at 5.7 degrees Celsius today morning. While Pendra Road and Durg saw a minimum of 5.7 and 6.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Forecast for Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh

A fresh Western Disturbance has approached the hills of North India due to which rain is likely to commence in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from tomorrow ( December 31).

The rainfall activity will initially be observed in Madhya Pradesh and gradually in the neighbouring state Chhattisgarh. This spell of rain is likely to continue in the region until January 3.
