Since the last two to three days the Southwest Monsoon has been active over northeastern parts of the country. Several places in the region have been recording very good rain. In the last 24 hours Monsoon has been even more vigorous overAssam,MeghalayaandArunachal Pradesh, Sub Himalayan West Bengal andSikkim.
According to the data available with Skymet, many places in the region have recorded three digit rainfall. For instanceDibrugarhand Tinsukia in Assam recorded a whopping 195 mm and 174 mm of rain, respectively in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday. While North Lakhimpur observed 107 mm of rain.
During the same period,Pasighatin Arunachal Pradesh andManganin Sikkim also witnessed 187 mm and 118 mm of rain, respectively.Cherrapunjiin Meghalaya too recorded a whopping 195 mm of rain.
A trough from the low pressure area which is over East Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand region is extending up to North Bay of Bengal due to which strong southerly winds are reaching up to the northeastern states and feeding abundant moisture to the region.
Looking at the weather models at Skymet, Southwest Monsoon will remain active or vigorous over the region for two to three days. During this period some other northeastern states like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also receive heavy to very heavy rain.
