A series of weather systems is developing over the North Bay of Bengal since the last 8 to 10 days. These systems are resulting in good rains over Odisha. And with another Low-Pressure Area likely to develop in the Bay around August 28, we expect surplus rains to lash Odisha during the coming week.
In the wake of good rains, the rain deficiency has already come down to only 3% as of August 25. During the last 24 hours as well, rains continued wherein moderate to heavy rains lashed many parts of the state. Paradip recorded 100 mm rain, Cuttack 53 mm, Angul 36.6 mm, Bhawanipatna 36.4 mm, Bhubaneswar 19.1 mm and Chandbali 26.6 mm rainfall within the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday.
According to Weathermen at Skymet, another Low-Pressure Area is likely to develop over the North Bay of Bengal around August 28. A Cyclonic Circulation is already persisting over the North Bay of Bengal. In the wake of this system, surplus rains would be seen over Odisha in the coming week.
The current Low-Pressure Area has already moved further due to which rain belt is now moving towards Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This movement will reduce the rainfall activities in Odisha, but scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells may continue for the next 24 to 48 hours.
Another good spell is anticipated around August 29 in view of a fresh Low-Pressure Area. This system will give rain over the state until August 31. But this will not end here! Odisha will get to see more rainy days in the month of September as fresh weather systems will keep taking a form. Thus, it is right to say that Monsoon would end on a surplus note for Odisha.
